Here to learn

Hello there!!!

I'm Jay...and I'm a speedaholic.

I'm a TV/Film lighting director from TN. I worked on HPTV, TRUCKS, Car & Driver TV for a few seasons, and a "one season wonder" cycle show "Top Dead Center".
While I know this board is dedicated to Corvettes, I'm here to simply learn more about the finer things and particulars of the SBC for a Z-car V8 swap/GTO conversion.

I learned a LOT about the basics during my stint with the shows, and what I WAS able to learn I got from some of the best in the business.
But my job wasn't to turn wrenches, it was to make their ugly mugs look pretty for TV.

Be gentle, because I don't know as much as I'd like, but I know enough to be dangerous. haha. I know what I WANT to do...but need to learn the best ways to get there.

Thanks for reading, and I hope I can learn a thing or two...and maybe offer something in return.

-Jay

welcome to the site

look around, and use the search function and ask questions, Im slowly posting the 8 gigs of info Ive got stored for everyne to use!

Thanks. :)

I'm usually a big searcher anyway. Part of the whole "self sufficient" thing that was hammered into me as a kid.
I usually don't like asking much unless I just can't find the definitive answer I'm looking for.

Can't wait to read up on the rest of the stuff. 8 gigs of text and pics is quite a bit. I'm sure it'll keep me busy for a while. :D

Jay,
This place is a Gold Mine, I've been hooked for about a week now,
and have yet to get through all the "Beginner" stuff.
Pleased to meet you.

Welcome

I don't think that Grumpy wanted this vette specific. It will be a resource for all hobbyists I am sure.

BLUTOYZ, is correct, the car you choose has little effect on the hot roding basics other than its appearance, the object is to have something that looks nice, something a bit differant and something thats hopefully faster , handles better and brakes more efficiently than the original car.
Ive owned camaros, GTOs, road runners, cudas, chevelles, etc. and while I prefer corvettes I would be just as happy in some of the older muscle cars as they were and are easier to work on.
Besides people expect to have a corvette, accellerate and handle well, but If your driving a car like a 1965 tempest , that leaves them watching tail lights thru tire smoke is a surprise.

Funny that you mentioned a tempest, I had one of those when I was 17. It was a 6cyl 3 on the tree 64' that I blew the tranny in so I happened to have a 283 from an impala SS and a stonecrusher in the garage. That was before the motor mounts were interchangable so I just set it in with the drivesaft and welded the frame mounts in. No muss, no fuss, no measure...cut a hole in the floor for the shifter and off to the races
It even had natural weight reduction (rusty quarters)
