hi everyone, looking for advice on a gen 6 454 build.

ok so heres what I have.

totally stock, rebuilt standard bore 97 L29 454 for my wifes little c10 truck, im disabled and money is always tight for toys.

A couple months ago I ordered a custom cam from Chris Straub after reading dozens of postings praising his cams. He asked me what I was running and then speced out this semi-custom grind.

Cam is a Clay Smith/Straub regrind, .578/.578 lift, 221/235 duration 109 LSA.

heads are l29 Vortec heads, with stainless stock sized valves, comp cams spring kit, new everything. I have the conversion kit for the heads with Harland Sharp 1:7 roller rockers, 3/8's pushrods, guideplates etc.

Its been a couple of months and im not a engine builder, but im very concerned with PTV on this high lift cam with stock pistons and stock heads. A similar build done by Richard Holdner for Super Chevy mentions that 550 lift is about the max lift without running into PTV issues.

please give me your insight into this, we installed the cam the other night, but didnt install the heads etc yet, my concern is that everything ive found has the realistic limit of around 550 lift.

Help me sleep at night.
