My names shane from B.C.. lots of nice cars and street machines on here. Hoping to pick up some good advice for my motor in my chevy mudracer. Its a bb 468, just pulled it out to build it. Im planning changing the top end and add some dome pistons. 188 rectangles and a hydraulic roller. Looks like theres alot of experience on this forum, I'll be shooting some questions out there soon. Thanks

welcome too the site!
looks like you live out where you might get to do some occasional hunting?

Yeah lots of hunting and mudding to be done here for sure! Great forums, I've been searching for different build combos with my type of heads, lots of great info!

what engine are you looking to build in that truck?
whats the differential gearing, tire size, transmission and generally describe what the trucks going to be used for?
YES I'm well aware of the difference between crawling up steep rock faces VS blasting across mud covered flats obstacles, and just because the truck looks like you ran through 1.5 feet of mud for two miles does not preclude doing both

Welcome to the forum Shane, glad you found us!

What's the budget going to be like for this build?

My engines a 454 .060 over, currently has flat tops, 6272292 oval ports and an edelbrock rpm intake. Carb is holley sa 770. Trans is a nv4500 5 speed, one ton running gear with lockers front n rear. 4:10 gearing and tires with lots o grip.
I already have some 188 rectangle heads and an edelbrock performer rpm to match.
I do race a 200' mud pit in 4 low 3rd gear held to the end....it revs a bit high for what it is.
I'm thinking of adding some 20cc domes to up the compression maybe 10:1, but havent decided on a cam yet. Hoping a couple grand will handle the cam and pistons I need.

You talk about over revving, what kind of rotating assembly do you have now? Do you
need to upgrade maybe? Change gears?

Im not 100% sure yet, I just pulled the motor and took the heads off. Next days off I'll pull the pan and take a look. Most likely stock assembly. Compared to my old small block which screamed, it seems to run out of steam around 5500 I'm guessing.

I'll start a build thread in engine combos and throw out some questions for people to chime in on. Thanks alot guys!
