My name is Guy,I am from Nova Scotia Canada. Our car season is somewhat short,5 months max, with a lot of rain in May,June & July this year.I have owned my '86 Monte SS for over 8 years.I bought it because it was fast.It had a solid roller cammed LS-6 crate motor with a Doug Nash 4 + 1 5 speed, its one of the quicker street cars around here.I overhauled the 454 the first winter, then lost a roller lifter the next year, wiping out the Crane cam # 138021,(234/244 dur @ 0.050 & 567 lift).I replaced that with a Comp solid roller # 11-771-8,XR 280 R,(248/254 dur @ 0.050,657/665 lift). This combo never worked quite as good as the old Crane cam did. Then last year I did a complete rebuild, the block was sent to A & J Armstrongs, they are probably one of the better performance machine shops in Canada. The mains were align honed, cylinders were bored & plate honed 0.060,(it was already at 0.030),the block was decked to 0.005,the crank, rods & new TRW # 2465 pistons were balanced.I also added a set of Brodix rectangular port Race Rite heads with the cnc chamber polish option & upgraded spring option,Weiand Stealth intake,Mighty Demon 800 cfm annular booster carb,2 inch Hookers,2 1/2 inch stainless Pypes w/X pipe & cutouts, all new ARP bolts & fasteners,MSD Pro Billet HEI distributor w/built in rev limiter, and it has a UDHarold custom solid roller cam from Custom Camshaft Co.,243/249 dur @ 0.050,668 lift & 112 LSA,Isky EZ Roll lifters from Mike "Wolfplace" Lewis, one peice Comp,(Trend),3/8 pushrods,Crane gold rockers, valve springs are Comp # 26075,250 at the seat,600 open.On Armstrongs dyno,it made 550 hp @ 6300 rpm & 520 ft lbs @ 4200,there was more with a carb spacer, but I didnt use it due to insufficient hood clearance. My best trip at the track was a 12.9 @ 112 mph,on street tires with the cutouts open, and it spun the tires all through 1st,2nd,3rd,then I shifted into 4th and went through the lights.I will be the first to admit that I am not a very good drag racer,I've only done it a few times, and I dont want to break anything,so I dont launch iot very hard. The rest of the car consists of a Ford 9 inch rearend,28 spline axles,(the big ones),3.00:1 gear, limited slip,Doug Nash 4 + 1 with a 3.28 first gear, and a Hurst Vertical Gate II Inline shifter.
Thanks
Guy

that sounds like a VERY impressive street car, sounds like some suspension work, and larger tires and air shocks on the rear might be useful.
have you considered modifying the rear wheel wells or going a bit further and tubing the rear for larger tires

If my goal was to have a more strip than street car,yes I would consider more suspension work. But this is a 99.9 % street car,and I kind of like the sleeper look.It does have some mods done, the stock sway bars were replaced with some type of anti roll bars,(already on when I bought it),the stock rear control arms are boxed, and I have added 6 extra braces;Rad core X brace, upper rad to inner fender braces, front Grand Prix side to side frame bar,a homemade rear frame brace, homemade rear seat X brace and Hotchkis rear control arm braces. All these have made a considerable difference,it hooks up evenly and doesent get "squirelly",and the whole car is tighter.I have also replaced most of the rubber bushings with Energy Suspension poly bushings.Koni shocks are out back,Bilsteins up front. Not 100 % sure about springs, they might be the stock ones out back, and the fronts are factory HD peices.
