Hi :)

mathd

solid fixture here in the forum
Hi,
New user here, 22 years old male from Canada(French canadian, so keep in mind english is my secondary language, i try as hard as i can to write the best possible.).
Short story why i am here.
I buy a 383 engine block with the rotating assembly already assembled into the block and the machining work done.(that is for a 80 camaro) i asked a guy to build it for me but after that i notice he tryed twice to fit the oil pick-up and he never see it did not had the oil pump... i went over google looking for engine info and i came to this forum wich are a really usefull database :), so now i am gonna bring all my engine/parts home and build the engine all by myself using this forum and some assembly manuals as i feel i will be better served by myself.

hopefully it will go well.
P.S. thanks for making this great forum, hopefully it stay forever!

Welcome MathD!

I think you have come to the right place for help! Just take your time and read some of the many book suggested on this forum. It's going to take me all winter to build my current engine, but then I don't have to drive it for everyday transportation. How about you, is this your daily driver???

Since it's a stroker motor (383), has it been checked for clearance around the rotating assembly. The crank can hit the block, cam or pistons. So be sure you have 0.060" clearance everywhere around the moving parts. I'm sure Grumpvette will post some links for this operation with lots of good pictures.

Looks like from your comments about the other guy, you made the right choice to do it yourself.

welcome to the site!
Im sure if you do some reading and follow thru on the sub-links in the threads many of your basic questions answers can be easily located,
but if you still have questions it will of course be far easier for those on the site to help you if you were to post specific questions

PLEASE! look around, use the search feature, follow links , and the sub, links as theres a good deal more here already than is instantly obvious, Ive set the site up as a teaching and reference resource so please post questions or suggestions as you see a need, and enjoy!
please tell your friends too join also as the more info shared the better, the object of the site is to allow you too more efficiently access info on your questions, or build a better combo, and if you can add anything useful please do so!
Ive set this up so you have links to related info and if you follow, and READ THRU the links you'll gain a great deal of knowledge
I JUST STARTED THE FORUM AS A ENGINE AND HOT RODDERS KNOWLEDGE SOURCE BECAUSE SEVERAL PLACES ID POSTED YEARS OF INFO CLOSED WITH LITTLE NOTICE OR CHANGED SO THAT OLD POSTED INFO WAS NO LONGER ACCESSIBLE, THERE'S A GREAT DEAL MORE TO COME AND FEEL FREE TO ADD ANYTHING YOU THINK WILL BE HELPFUL.
btw the more pictures you post and well thought thru and detailed questions you ask the more likely you'll be to get interested responses from most readers on the site

BTW THESE LINKS MIGHT BE A GOOD PLACE TO START

Howdy Partner!! I'm interested all ready, not many z28 from that year around these parts anymore, should be able to light the tires if you get you one of them there, big stroker doohickee's and mate it up with that there kerosene and add in some good ole ass whoop. A couple fat Stickeys Mickey's and you a purrrdy lady on some flame job seat covers. You might just be on to something. Just ask Grumpy he's gots heemself one of them there flippin 383's his damn self.

Thanks for this warn welcome :)
I am going to see the guy in about 1 hour now, telling him i want my stuff back..
I am soo stressed i shake all over the place... i really hate that much stress, but a warm welcome like this make me alot more confident :).

So far, engine will be an all forged 383, crank, connecting rod, piston, valves(with double spring) roller rocker and oh yes.. it will have a supercharger :). A B&M 4-71(its small but i want it to fit under the hood)
Yes it is going to be a daily driver hehe (i must be crazy).
I come back with more info once i have the stuff on hand.
So far this website is answering all the question i could think of and also bring stuff i never thought about.

Now am gonna try to relax as much as i can.
I keep you updated for sure :)

Edited to correct my typo, sorry.

No need to be nervous for two reasons:

- if anything is unclear, my French is near native. On s'occupera de vous. ;)
- There's enough knowledge and talent here to see you through whatever you set out to do.

Welcome to the board,

D.

I used to run and underhood baby blower myself... (on a 400)

thanks for joining in DORIANL

Ive always been impressed with how willing most guys are in this hobby, to help out, if they feel their talents can help others.

Ok,
I talked with the guy hes going to complete the assembly.
Apparently he is used to wet oiling system wich use a external oil pump(something like that he told me)
I made him put the lube on the cam lobe and hes going to degree it in correctly.
He has all the blueprint for the block wich was assembled/machined by a reputable shop.
Now i am going to spend a few day reading this forum and links, i will be behind him for every step checking clearance and if he is doing it right :).

Thanks DorianL :)

If you have questions don,t hesitate to post them, someone will try to respond with at least some information

Mathd,

You are going to break in the cam, right? We'll help you through that.

However, I would highly recommend you check that he accurately degreed the cam!!!
