horse power + torque

I think I am in the right place for this ,but is it true that the horse power and torque always cross at 5252 ,just heard this today and still looking up info about it.
Thanks Dan

Yes, because of the formula(HP = TORQUE x RPM ÷ 5252)
At 5252 RPM, torque and HP are equal. At any RPM below 5252, the value of torque is greater than the value of HP; Above 5252 RPM, the value of torque is less than the value of HP.

You may want to read this link for more info(source): http://www.epi-eng.com/piston_engine_te ... torque.htm

It has to, since the formula would dictate that. Some may wonder where the 5252 comes from, well that just a simplification of the forumula. One HP = 33,000 ft lb/min by definition, when you reduce that by 2pi or 6.2832 you get 5252.
