My wife thinks IM insane! Ill be driving along at the speed of traffic and suddenly I see a tool, Ill pull off the road as soon as I can safely do so,and back up, get out and pick up a ratchet, or wrench, or socket, etc that I spotted lying in the gutter, the wife always goes thru the same drill about how IM spending too much time looking for tools and not paying attention to my driving!
but the truth is that I AM paying attention to my driving!, but hey If I see a CHROME socket or ratchet glistening on the side of the road I just think its my duty to pick it up!, Ive acquired a good selection of sockets, extensions, pliers, etc.over the years doing that, and the price is right!
so how many of you guys have done the same????
(Ive got to prove I,M not the only person on the planet thats done that)

Guess I need to start paying more attention to the road surface and less to the pretty thing driving the car next to me!

Sorry Bob, I can't help you out on this one.

bob I drive my wife nuts doing the same thing occasionally ,so your not the only "INSANE OLD GEEZER"
I found a complete 3 ton floor jack on the side of the road once, the marks in the dirt looked like some guy changed a truck tire, put the jack next to the guard rail. then forgot to load the jack back into the truck when he drove off!
I got my oxygen/ acetylene welders oxy tank that way, found it lying in the ditch, looked brand new at the time, tire marks , and broken glass indicated a wreck at the nearby intersection, so that probably had something to do with it

You have tools groving in streeets in Americah???? Ach land of meeelk and honey.

most guys have had tools fall into cracks in the cars engine compartment while they work on the car that they can,t find or forget about, guys lay tools on engines and forget to put them away, and later those tools vibrate loose and fall while the owner drives, trunks have rust holes, loose tail gates, loose saddle boxes, etc. accidents result in tools thrown around and the owners too concerned with damage or injury to notice, guys take tools out of the car to change a flat tire or leaking radiator hose or fan belt and leave them on the radiator support, or on the road side, theres a dozen reasons, but its not all that uncommon for tools to be found on the road side.
id bet Ive got at LEAST 30 tools in the last 40 years that I still have that were FOUND on a road side. and Ive more than likely contributed at times to the exchange of tool ownership by loosing a few myself.

I've never been as lucky as my pop was. He would come home with an amazing amount of road finds over the years. Ladders, hammers, wrenches, etc...
Not to mention stray animals.
Among his best finds was a Ford model A tool kit (it wasn't badly rusted, still don't know what that was doing there) and an outboard motor, a boat anchor and canoe paddles.
Maybe I don't have the eye. I've only scored a few pliers and wrenches.
My wheel cover/hub cap collection is growing since I live near a rough crossing of railroad tracks! ;)

My cars have eaten their share of tools, Grumpys tools too, grumpy told me to start looking at yard sales and you can get whole boxes after grandad passes for 5 bucks a box.. some of these shit tools ive bought through the years would have been better off on the side of the road! :) Oh by the way, i want my 1/2 inch socket back that was mine on the side of the road!!

I picked up a virtually new 10mm deep well 3/8 drive socket and some cheap channel lock pliers left in the road last week
