How weird is this?

A storm was moving in fast this evening so I went outside to make sure my windows were up in my truck. I started up my truck to move it over one space for when my wife returns. Just as the first lightning strikes got close my wife is coming down our driveway (it's about 350 ft. Long) she stops and at that same moment my truck stalls, or rather it just stops like the key was turned to off. I tried to restart but nothing. The wife's car . . . . Same thing and cannot restart either. She works from home tomorrow and it's getting late - I'll test things out in the morning and check out the newly split in half walnut tree out back.

A storm just went through here Rich.
No lightning strikes on my farmhouse.
Your lucky both the wife & you.

Check the ECM Power fuses.
Maybe just they blew out.
If ECMs , call the insurance company.
Most late model cars & trucks have ECM Computers that must be programmed by the Dealership.

Brian, I hope it's just the fuses. Don't know what ECMs cost - I'm sure they're expensive because I have a high deductible! ;)

Tend to be expensive Rich.
Not much I can do to save you money if they got damaged from lighting strikes nearby.

Glad Your Ok and the wife too.
Even a small bolt of lightning has an amazing amount of energy behind it.

I have bad luck at times too Rich.
Younger than Grumpy & you but crazy stuff happens to me also.... ;)

Can't tell for sure from your post, did the lightening strike get close to your wife or just in the neighborhood ???

I,m glad you and your wifes not hurt!
as always when a car stops running , your usually going to break down the search for the cause into lack of fuel, or ignition spark and then isolate it further to the actual cause, so break out the shop manual and multi meter and start checking.
Its rather odd both stopped at the same time

A very powerfull Electromotive magnetic force was generated with the nearby lightning strike.
Similar to a Nuclear bomb going off.
Only a VERTEX Magneto would keep working.
No TTL circuitry inside a Mag.

Lightening struck the tree outback, and this morning I found a blown GFIC, attic fan is seized and A/C condenser fan is shot. I'm going to have an early lunch and get started on the wife's car and my truck.

Good thing the generator wasn't running!

I am a vintage WW2 Aviation Warbird fan too Rich.
If read old Fighter Pilot & Bomber stories they flew right through Powerful Thunder Storms.
Planes always struck by Lightning. The Monster Big Radial Engines & Allison & Merlin V12 engines never missed a beat.
They all had Swiss made Schintilla Bendix Magnetos installed.
The Germans & Japanese didn't have same.
We had the very best ignition systems.
Good reason for kicking the crap out of them in the air.
Schintilla Bendix after the war changed names to VERTEX MAGNETOS.
Proud & Legendary Performace & Reliability Legecey.
Few know that. But You & others that read now know too.

Ok, Toyota said yesterday it was a EMP that blew a type of run capacitor for the battery bank's fan. It was replaced today and all is good, for the truck now I am told ecu needs a reflash of it original programing.
I'll just put that on my list of 100 things I need to get done! Maybe I can figure out why I only get 15 mpg on a DuraMax while I'm into this ordeal.

I recommend 1 Good Vertex Magneto for our classic Cars.

Emp is real .
All aware of what's taking place in the world daily.
Vertex Mag will keep working regardless.
I rebuild them.
Take time this summer to fix my SUN MT400 1963 Distributor Machine.
No more graphing.
