It's an open rear supposed to be a 3.73.
How is this rear for converting into a posi?
I heard one time that these rears are stronger than 12 bolt rears, but are they stronger than a Dana 60?

Sorry, wrong information- A complete rear from a 64 Pontiac Grand Prix with 9.3" rear. Not posi. Gears appear to be 2.93. This housing measures 59" from brake flange to brake flange, 65" from axle flange to axle flange. This is a straight, solid housing. No dents, dings or heavy pitting. This should clean up nicely.
Where do you go to find out information on rear axle measurements?

those ar ebig strong rears... congrats on the find.... i wish i knew anything about them. the posi is gonna be hard to find but they do exist. as do different ring and pinions

No. This rear is a Direct bolt in for all Fullsize 1963-64 Pontiac Grand Prix, Catalina, Safari, Executive, .
The rear track width is about 64 inches on these cars front and rear.
Hence the name Widetrack Pontiacs.
The 1964-65 GTO uses a special track width 10-bolt only shared with the Z16 1965 Chevelle 396 425 hp 12-bolt equipped.
About 58.0-58-1/2 " inches.

The 1957-64 Pontiac 9.3 is at least strong as a Dana60.
A 12-bolt chevy is Garbage next to a 9.3.

Reproduction parts are made for the 9.3.
Very expensive compared to what most are used to or want tp spend.
Its worth it to me because balls out Drag Racing is my only goal and zero parts breakage.

The housing can be narrowed .
But custom one off axle shafts must be made to fit. Expense .

The stock 9.3 axle shafts are tapered.
Don't lend themselves to cutting down and resplining.

The most desrible 9.3 housing is from the 1957 58 Pontiac .
Very narrow.
60-1/2 inch track width.
Very hard to find today.
I have 2, '57 & '58 Pontiac .
Exact track width 1970-81 Firebird Trans Am.
