I got asked why I never wear a wedding ring and rarely wear, a wrist watch, long sleeve shirts or a tie.
well, when I was married about 43 years ago I had one,a small gold wedding band, and wore it for several weeks to please the new wife!, the first time I ever wore any jewelry and I found it was a low level irritation, I was always getting it bent one day with my hand well up under the cars dash the ring some way shorted out two electrical contacts and burned my ring finger rather badly.
I was pissed off, and removed the ring, but the wife insisted it go back on.
well a few months passed and I was working on replacing the shops roll-up garage door that has a weather strip on its lower edge, held in place with metal screws every 12 inches, at one point the spring bracket holding the roll-up door came loose and I was forced too catch the door as it rapidly descended, in the process my wedding ring hooked on a slightly extended screw in the doors lower edge and I could not get my hand out from under the door as it descended rapidly and impacted on the concrete floor as it weighed several hundred lbs and without the spring offsetting it weight it was more than a single person who was not expecting it to catch and hold with a running start it had.
and that resulted in a partly crushed set of fingers almost breaking them, that remained painful for months the ring was squashed and I had to remove the flatten oval gold band with wire cutters,as it was deeply embedded in a rapidly swelling crushed finger. needless to say I refuse to wear any rings ever since.
the ring got repaired and re-welded and looks great sitting in the bottom of my sock drawer where its been for 4 plus decades
as to ties, one of my friends was wearing a tie when he stopped to help a lady with a stalled car one rainy day, he reached over to check something and told her to try the starter, his tie got caught in the fan belt and yanked his neck so hard he was partly paralyzed for about a week and still 40 plus, years later has neck pains, so learning from his mistake I refuse to wear ties except at forced appearance occasions ,"by the wife " like occasionally family member weddings.
long sleeve shirts are never a good idea working on cars for the same reason as ties, plus they tend to get terrible grease and oil stains.
so there you have the answers to those minor mystery's.
