Idle air sensor question

Sorry, this is not about my vette, but my wife's Toyota Prius. Recently the check engine light came on and I checked the OBD for fault codes. It came up showing the "idle air sensor". Before replacing the unit I decided to clean the sensor with throttle body spray. If you ever started a Prius it starts first on the battery and a minute or so later the engine will start. Well, I delayed the spraying of throttle body until the engine started, however the running of the engine didn't respond nicely to a couple of quick, low volume shots of cleaner. I had to take the car out on the road and run it about ten miles before the engine ran smooth and the check engine light went out on it's own. It seems that things are running correctly now but when looking Behind the throttle plate it still looks like black build-up coating the inside. Is there a better procedure for cleaning next time?

if you want to you can remove the IAC sensor and valve control and clean it with spray,
but remember theres a shop manual you need to read first and its easily damage IF DONE INCORRECTLY, IF ITS CONNECTED WITH-OUT FIRST SETTING THE INSTALLED DISTANCE CORRECTLY, or several other factors
