Since I can't find the key to my ignition switch, I might as well just
replace it ....... if I could get it out!

I know about the paper clip in the little hole thru the front of the switch,
but if I don't have the key how do I get it out so I can replace it ????????

Lol.
Your as Intellegent as anyone here Rick.
I am terrible with computers & graphics.

Its a Master lock picking set you need.
Just like in the original gone in 60 seconds Movie that car thieves use.
1973.
One special pick depresses the lock cylinders internal combs.
The other pick rotates the lock cylinder when ready.

Snap On has sold Mechanics master lock pick sets for 40 some years.
Pretty sure Harbor Freight has similar .

Its not too hard to pick an old car lock cylinder.
Takes me 30 seconds.
1St time may take 15 minutes .
Patience & feel each internal comb being depressed.

So you are saying there is not other way to remove the switch
without removing the cylinder first.

Great big hammer maybe!

cut-off wheel on a dremel should make removal fairly quick and easy

Your a Really Good car guy Craftsman Rick.
I know you can pick that lock cylinder .
Only 5-7 internal combs.
Lockpick set maybe $10-15 off shore made.

POLLACK made the Ignition switch original.

What you have is identical to my Old 1963 Pontiac Grand Prix.

On Lunch Rick.
Posting from my phone.
SNAP ON Master Lock Pick Set. # LPK620.

drill it out :)
Rick's One Off Custom Hand Carved Wood Dash.

The switch is not in the dash, but anyways I got it out by prying with a screw driver
and bezel just popped off.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys!

I purchased a Dorman 85936 ignition switch from O'Reilly's for about $12. Every
website including Dorman's, rates this switch at 30 Amps. But then I got home
and looked at the back of the package it says 15 Amps. I sent an email to Dorman
Tech Support for clarification.

Another thing ..... I measured the resistance across the closed contacts and in
every case it measured between 18-20 ohms. Sure sounds high to me, so I also
asked for clarification on this subject in my email.

rick it's probably 30 amp peak, 15 amp continuous.

I think you may still be right, but according to the reply I got it was mis-labeled.
See reply from Dorman below.

I wished he had answered my question about the resistance, sure sounds
high to me at 18 ohms.

Rick,

Sorry for the confusion, this is a 30 amp switch. Some of our older packaging
was misprinted with 15 amp. Thank you for your inquiry.

I got another quick reply from Dorman about the resistance stating 1-3 ohms. When I got home I rechecked the switch and was getting a different reading so I removed the batteries and reseated them. Now I'm getting less than 0.5 ohms.

Got out my Fluke that plugs into 120v and it confirmed the switch has less than 0.5 ohms on any closed contact.
