Hello. Im the new guy from the small town of Gainesville TX on the Red River border of Tx and Oklahoma. Im 32 Years old with a wife and 4 roudy kids. Im a Career Fireman for the City of Grand Prairie between Dallas and Fortworth. On my days off I work on boats for the local area of lake texoma including engine and drives, electrical components, and Custom Canvas work.

I have a lot of experience with small engines starting from a young age racing motocross and building and maintaining race bikes for both stock and modified classes 2 stroke and 4 stroke bike. I saw moderate success in the pro-am series eventuality gaining sponsor ship from team Suzuki for a few years. Never made it to the Professional Career level as injuries, financial restraints coupled with a vast intreast in too many hobbies often diverted my attention.

I enjoy the science of engine building and have rebuilt several engines, over the years, large and small, gas and diesel. Mostly inboard marine engines and drives and almost all to OEM specifics.

I recently started my first full custom BBC build for a 30ft baha and have used this site for the majority of the build.

The boat is 29ft pulpit to transom. 8.5ft beam width with a hybrid perfromance hull with deep gun walls and wider degree to the keel than a true perfromance boat. It is an open bow with a mid cabin with small galley. The drive setup is a single engine big block Mercruiser with a bravo 3.

I purchased the boat with the original engine cracked in the lifter valley from freeze damage. The original engine is a 97 model "Mercruiser 7.4L Bravo III" (this is the actual model name) it consist of a Generation VI 9.8 deck 454 block with cast rotating assembly, 156 heads cast dual plane manifold, Mercruiser marine cam, MLS head gaskets, and a Weber/Carter AFB 750 mechanical secondary. The ignition is a Thunderbolt V with photosensor timing sensor and a timing modual with 22 degree advance curve. The engine makes 8.1:1 static compression and is avertised as 330hp (similar to the Mercruiser 330, Wich was a GEN V engine common to Bravo I drives in earlier year packages)

Now that I have typed an essay I will close with my replacement engine concept and follow up with a separate post with details and where the engine is at this point. I have built a replacement engine starting with a Mark IV long block with 781 heada. It is complete but I have issues to address. The build goal is a 454 with a WOT of 5200-5600 RPM using a single carb and a small 1.5L Kenny Bell twin Screw supercharger around 6 to 8 psi. I look forward to detailing my current setup and discussing my issues and sharing my experienced short comings and lessons learned in a future post.

welcome to the web site!
obviously , posting several clear pictures of your project would be helpful

Before I post the details of the "Blown Baha Build" I have a few questions as to the process of posting on the site. I created this thread with the intent to introduce myself and my level of experience. Having done that, is it customary that I create a new thread with the details of the project, with an appropriate title, in efforts to promote forum organization? Also. In the event I have a question that is specific to a subject covered in a detailed thread that already exist on the forum, for example, block preparations prior to assembly, after reviewing the posted information and reading the outsourced documents and links. I still have concerns, difficulty understanding the presented information, or a question that pertains specifically to my build project that I was not able to find a clear answer for. Should I post my question directly to the thread that covers that subject or create a new post that will allow comments directly to my post and specific question, as to not clutter the subject thread. I have never been a member of a forum, so I have little experience with proper forum etiquette.

Awesome! thank you for letting me know. Im gathering photos and organizing my project details a little more. ( Im resizing photos right now) I WILL build this engine correctly, no matter how many times I have to take it apart. Or how many tools I have to buy! Or how many tools boxes I have to buy to fit those tools!

I'm more OCD than most around here, but no matter where you post we will offer our best to help.

But I like to see threads in the correct section so others browsing for info will find it in the appropriate
place and an engine build thread is not usually found in the "Introduce Myself" section. IF they do a
search then yes they might find your thread.

A build thread is a document that will for ever help you remember EXACTLY what you actual did and
not what you think you remember. It's a JOURNAL !!! Therefore most engine build thread seem to be
found in the link below.

Grumpy is definitely everywhere. Lol I believe I will post a new thread as it will be a lot of information and several photos. Between chasing dollars and chasings kids it's hard to set down and organize everything.
