IS the hellcat engine impressive!!
yes without a doubt, its darn impressive engineering and exceptional engine engineering,
but that being said, its not something that the other manufactures engines can,t be modified compete with on an equal power produced basis, it just takes a bit more displacement for the older slightly less efficient engine designs, to compensate for the exceptionally good hemi engine design.

Spec Measure
Bore x Stroke 4.09 x 3.58 (104 x 91) (ROUGHLY 373 CUBIC INCHES)
Compression 9.5:1
Max power 707 hp at 6,000 rpm (SAE net)
Torque 650 lb-ft @ 4,800 rpm

Fuel 91 octane (premium) (R+M)/2
Oil 7.5 quarts / 7.1 liters, 0W-40 synthetic
Coolant 14 quarts (13.25 liters)

The 5.7L Hemi makes its 410 lb-ft. peak torque at 4,800RPM; the Hellcat makes 411 kb-ft at 1,200RPM.
90% of the engine parts are new in the Hellcat.
The 2.4L IHI supercharger runs 14,600RPM at just over 11PSI. of boosted intake pressure
The engine flows 30,000 liters of air per minute.
It takes 80 horsepower just to drive the supercharger.
The Hellcat actually makes more than 800 horsepower, gross, but is SAE certified at the crank for 707.
There are 21,000 lb of load on each piston; they use diamond coated piston pins.
Each supercharged Hemi is dyno-tested for 42 minutes for loads up to 90% at 5,200RPM.
Special injectors flow 600cc/minute and can fill a pint glass in 7 seconds.
The 8-speed auto capacity was upgraded by 30%, using new disks.
The 6-speed manual is used in the Viper, but has internal coolers with Hellcat.
The ECU is locked by Chrysler, so if the aftermarket wants to make modifications, they will need to supply their own controllers.

I see a good many people seem astonished at the fact that the dodge hemi with a supercharger makes 707 hp
but a LS engine or big block chevy of a bit larger displacement has a similar potential if turbo or supercharged, with the correctly selected parts, it would be very easy to exceed those power numbers with carefully selected components in a custom built inter-cooled turbo build, and do it for less cash than the HELLCAT CAR sells for and theres N/A crate engines available now that exceed those numbers easily. put 11 pounds of boost on a serious SBC...
yes the "HEMI" heads where the valves are less shrouded and the breathing is slightly improved,if you paid attention the NEW HEMI engines bested the ENGINE MASTER CHALLENGE,based on hp per cubic inch of displacement, but look carefully the other designs are not that far behind, and if larger displacement is selects they don,t keep up

HEMIS WERE MAKING ABOUT 1.7 hp per cubic inch
LS CHEVY WERE MAKING ABOUT 1.65 hp per cubic inch
BBC CHEVY WERE MAKING ABOUT 1.59 hp per cubic inch

a bit of simple math shows that any of the other engine designs assembled with the best competitive parts should easily compete , to produce similar or better power if the displacement exceeds 415-420 cid and all the other factors like boost are similar

stock-hemi-heads.jpg

THEY are a slight advantage but that's one factor that's easily compensated for with a slightly larger displacement, and the better LS and BBC heads can produce amazing results

now theres no doubt thats impressive from a production, off the show room floor street license-able, and in theory street drive-able car.
but its not quite as impressive when you look at the cost vs building something custom, or looking over the options in crate engines, for you hot rod.

if all goes well this weekend ill be updating the build thread heavily... got a line on a 4.8/4l60e pullout with ecu an harness, 90k miles from a yukon poor guy couldnt re-register his truck because he has 800 dollars is back due sunpass payments so hes parting it out.

im gonna clean up the motor, gap the rings a little wider, deglaze the cylinders while im in there, then cam, springs, head studs and 20 psi... i wouldnt be doing anything to the bottom end if i wasnt shooting for 700 to the tire, and as it is ive already gotta swap that oil pan out for an F-body pan so itll require the least massaging to fit over the rack.

once i get the motor in my place ill see if its a gen IV or gen III, since 04-06 were transitional years... i think if its a gen III i might spring for a rebuild with better rods and forged pistons, but i really dont want to spend that money on that shit... gen 3 rods tends to get a little S curve in them with prolonged 800+bhp abuse. what i might do if its a gen 3, is get it dialed in nice at 600hp, and drive it and race it like that untill i can afford the rods and pistons and bearings and machine work, then have a stout built 4.8 short block on the side waiting... turn up the wick and see when the stock stuff starts giving way who knows, maybe the car makes 600-650 and is so batshit crazy i dont want any more from it. ill pull two psi and a degree of iiming out of the whole thing and drive it forever like that.

Sounds like loads of fun !!!

Will the 4L60E take that kind of punishment??? What will you do about the electronics???

im gonna get a torque converter, a tranny cooler, and a transgo hd2 shift kit,,, i dont know how well the 4l60e is going to be able to perform with all that power, hopefully the lack of low rpm torque inherent in the setup and the fact that the zx is lighter than any factory gm vehicle a 4l60e has ever seen will get me some decent longevity from the trans.

the electrical will be all stock harness and computers with hptuners software

watching the details of assembly, tuning etc, and seeing the results and durability issues will be interesting and potentially fun and informative.

Car made 791hp / 835 tq...belt slipped on first run....tightened down and made some great numbers!! Tuned by Billy Whatley (Machine Works)

Look at dat torque!

on one hand the hellcats power numbers seem impressive and they really are for a production car that at least in theory is a street license capable and deliverable to the public, but I know from building several dozen rather powerful car engines and installing them in cars for local people, that the vast majority of drivers are basically horribly unskilled or at least vastly under skilled, and without a great deal of practice, most are at least initially incapable of intelligently controlling a car with similar power levels.
that is not to say we should not have the option to buy such a car or build something similar, just that the average guys going to have issues until he gets a few weeks of practice behind the wheel, and even thats unlikely to help much if he rarely has the opportunity to open the throttle and play with the car in some area where hes not endangering other drivers.

Ive done a good deal of driving in much more powerful cars than Id bet the vast majority of guys have experienced and day dream like most of you about being on an unlimited bank account balance so I could buy some new car like a dodge helcat or older dodge viper at least in my eyes a new 2016 Z06 corvette or even something like my brother-in-laws cobra replica and installing a decent large cubic inch high compression engine in it, but I can tell you from experience that cars like that are a good deal of fun, and a bottomless money pit and they take constant maintenance and a good deal of practice to drive well, so be prepared to spend a good deal of time learning to drive with different skills than you might currently have and be prepared to spend money, "far more that you might think of, both" if you build, buy or get a similar car

Definitely a Drag Racing Year Grumpy
The limit is everyones pocket books.
Driveline parts too.

Have plenty of goodies as you know.

RACE ON EVERYBODY !

We will have to use some of Grumpys tricks Phil.
$ is tight for all.
Should be stable this year as long as stupid Bam keeps golfing.
Mechanics .....Grumpy, You Phil, & Me can do OK.
Sidejobs be great. Should be there soon for us all.

I took a Look on Digital Corvette Forum this morning Grumpy.
The Corvette is Definitely Dead.
An Old Man's Car only now.

The Hellcats Won Drag Racing.
The ACR Viper Won Road Racing.
Also Autowiz and all the Other DC Mods Lack True Racing Experience .
Just as I thought .

ITS GOING TO BE TOTAL DECIMATION OF THE CORVETTE IN 2016.
15,000 + HELLCATS OUT THERE STREET RACING .
ZERO CORVETTES TO COMPETE LET ALONE WIN.

It Takes A 100 % Pontiac Guy To Win against the Hellcats Grumpy .
Or 100 % Ford Guy. 5.0 world.

Gay Pro Touring Corvette by Wiz and others won't Win against Hellcats.

I bet Rick's T Bucket cold take a Hellcat. With weight to hp ratios I believe he could do it!

I bet Rick's T Bucket cold take a Hellcat. With weight to hp ratios I believe he could do it!
Rick is not interested in Drag Racing.
If he was Trap Speeds of 130-140 mph is the goal.
He is now interested in Land Speed Racing.
He lined up next to the 1966 GTO At the Home Town Nationals. GTO Was way faster.
T geared all wrong current to drag race.
The rear suspension very questionable to launch super hard on.
Needs a modern 4-link.

Such a nice ride. I dont think he wants to chance destroy the T.

Rick is the only that Raced another including all of Digital Corvette and filmed it.
A proud accomplishment .
