Can You provide Reading today Grumpy on Inconel Exhaust engine valves for extreme Duty useage ?
I have a Single GM NOS Pontiac SD-455 INCONEL 751 Valve. Still in original GM Box from 1974.
The ultra rare 1973-74 SD455 Trans Ams & Formulas used them stock.
I understand the special alloy is related to stainless steel . But resists ultra high exhaust temps of 1600-1700 F Sustained.
Valves glow incadescent bright white at these temps and all fail but Inconel alloys.
The Inonel resists micro welding with seats too of all types & alloys.
Stuff is True Non Magnetic like Titanium.

Placed a magnet on my. NOS SD455 1.77" Face Inconel 751 Valve. Will nit stick.

Also Honda B20Z2 Engines included.
Have to call them Monday & see if they have 8 of them in stock.
Or how much $$ to have them made for me.

Manley has made me Custom Valves in the past for me for my Pontiac V8's.
XH428 Stainless steel.
And Orange High Temp Titanium Valves.
Have a brand new set here from Manley.
Custom made gor me to my specs.
Wonderful Ti Silver Lightning.
Have some time this weekand.
Post some Pictures of the NOS GM SD-455 Inconel 751 Valve & Manley Ti Valved.
Have other used Ti Valves frim NASCAR Race engines too.
The Manleys were expensive. Had them made when days were good & I earned an extra $900 + Week building Race Rear Diffs for Drag Racers.
Post my Suburban 4L60E Do it thread too in 6-7 hpurs.
 
I knew Inconel 751had a small amount of Titanium in it Grumpy.
I didn't know it had super exotic Tantalum & Niobium in there also.

The X15 Jet that Chuck Yeagar flew to break the sound barrier was made from X750 INCONEL The entire outer body skin. Man that had to be super expensive.....Like 500 Billon bucks today.

The wife's Honda B20Z2 engine is worth saving.
Its actually a race engine in an SUV with a Honda badge.
Read the Honda Forums last night.
All want that little 2.0 DOHC engine to build up & Race.
Raced it too at 6500-6700..
Has at least 160 HP at 6,700 Rpms. Factory underrated at 146 HP.
Whenever I drove it It was fun to put your foot down and pass all on the road.

The little B engine gets its roots from an old Indy car Formula Race engine original around 1988 -89.
Built to compete against Lotus Ford V8 & Cosworth V8.

Whats real interesting is her Honda B20Z2 has an identical R/S ratio as a Pontiac 455 at 1.57 :1.
Real important to match R/S ratio to a combustion chamber flame front propagation burn rate.
Honda got it right like Pontiac did with a few high end Rare Musclecar engines & I built for the TA.

I dug up my single NOS SD-455 Inconel 751 Exhaust Valve. Took numerous photos. NOS originals are Super Rare today.
Its a 2- piece constructed valve. The Lower half is pure Inconel 751. Its joined 1/2 way up the valve stem with a standard steel upper piece. Friction Welded together on 2 high speed spindles brought together, Gets red hot. Stop both spindles.
A 1- piece valve is formed. Then Finished machined centerless ground. Chrome plate the valvestem. Pictures show the lower half is non-magnetic Inconel 751. A powerfull rare Earth magnet used to demonstrate.

Also pictured is an original Exhaust valve from the wife's Honda CR-V from 2 years ago. From the #3 cylinder. Burnt a valve in the #4 cylinder this time around. Compression test verified burnt valve & valvelash closed up to Zero. Adjusting valve had no improvement. Put Put Put....
Its some kind of stainless steel or is Inconel too. Its slight magnetic on the valve Face- head but not very much at all.
Joined 1/2 way up the valvestem with a steel upper 1/2 like my NOS SD-455 Ex Valve.
The entire valve was Nitrated after machining. Giving the black color.
You can see its burnt, warped, & pie faced guttered apart one section missing.
All Honda CRV B20Z engines do this eventual I read. Other than that its a Near Bullet Proof little Hotrod Engine.

Thought Grumpy & you guys enjoy looking. The original Honda valve I ground on my Sioux Valve Grinder too see how bad its warped.....pretty bad from ultimate failure.

Too Cold tonight. Getting down to -15 F to -20 F again.
Good thing the Suburban is running great & excellent shifting 4L60E trans. Shifts like new. I think it has the "092" Corvette 2-4 servo installed. Shifts like the 87 Corvette. Nice.

Involved the 1st time 2 years ago.
Car worth too much to scrap.
Does great in deep snow too.
Decent on gas economy.

Everything so small compared to Vintage American Iron.
But those Imports do run good & some very fast today.
 
The Ferrea Super Alloy Valves for the wife's Honfa B20Z2 engine came in last night Grumpy.
Made nice & fully polished to a mirror shine.
Get some Pics up later tonight.
8 Intakes & 8 Exhaust Valves.
Ordered new Valvesprings too.
