The concepts fairly simple,
quickly compressing air in a turbo or roots supercharger generates a good deal of HEAT,
HEAT makes air expand, BUT ,since the goal in superchargeing an engine is to effectively stuff the area above the piston on the intake stroke with more fuel air mix and burn a DENSER LARGER VOLUME of FUEL/AIR MIX to generate more cylinder pressure ,thus generate more TORQUE, you want cooler denser air introduced into the engines intake ports. denser cooler air holds more OXYGEN, for a GIVEN VOLUME, so COOLING air before or durring the adding fuel process and stuffing the mix into the cylinders process tends to generate more hp.
lower intake air temps also tend to lower the tendency to get into detonation
