ID point out that keeping a zip loc bag , and a mag fire starter along with several cheap throw away bic lighters

full off extra fine steel wool to place the magnesium
shavings onto that you place under your tinder goes a long way toward generating heat to start a fire

If I'm back packing into the wilderness for several days camping, I generally carry 5 disposable lighters a large pad of 0000 steel wool and the mag fire starter in the day pack, and a dozen troxane fuel tabs, that might sound like a bunch of stuff but it fits rather easily in a smaller back pack side pack pocket, one you compress the trapped air out

forgot about the oily rag combustion. Kinda scary if you think about how many oily rags that are just left lying around.

yeah, wipe up a mix of linseed oil and motor oil on a few old towels and throw them in the trash,
youll have a fire in an amazingly short time, throw that combo in a plastic trash can and walk away...your screwed
