SHORT ANSWER, YES IT HELPS PREVENT SLUDGE/VARNISH
id point out that there are newer synthetic oils that also contain solvents that reduce sludge formation.
but as always regular oil filter and oil changes done every 6-8 thousand miles using the newer synthetic oils and a longer length quality, oil filter help immensely
