Hi guys, need your experience y have a chevy nova 75'.
Whit a 409 ci sbc 9.5 compress. Cam 274 extreme, 850 Pro form carb , 350 shift kit, an 4.56 rear gear , y run whit 28x9 slick whit a 13:36 seconds on 1/4 mile,
I want to change my cam for strip/street, i read can have better time white a 292 mega cam isky , what do u think a bout what do u recommend

just swapping a new cam into the combo may not and in fact is unlikely to produce the increased power level your looking for, its the complete combo and how the parts match and complement each other that matters, with 409 cubic inches , good flowing cylinder heads will be mandatory to getting the engines full power potential.
yes? more info would be really useful!
what heads and what intake manifold?
whats the plenum vacuum read at wide open throttle at peak rpms?
what does the exhaust back pressure read at PEAK RPMS?
whats the fuel/air ratio at each 1000rpm?
whats the valve spring load rates and max clearance before coil bind?
what converter stall speed?

an ISKY MEGA CAM MIGHT WORK

but If I knew a good deal more about the car I cold get a far better idea as to the engines real needs
and I can,t think of a single valid excuse to run a flat tappet hydraulic cam when a flat tappet SOLID LIFTER CAM could easily out perform it and not limit the engines rpm potential nearly as much.remember a properly camed SBC with the proper matched valve train and heads /intake etc. can easily spin 6700-7000rpm and a hydraulic flat tappet cam won,t allow that full power curve potential

ASSUMING the heads are rather restrictive stock heads Id be looking for something in a solid flat tappet lifter cam WITH NEW VALVE SPRINGS (and yes youll need to verify clearances)with about a .500 lift and a 240/245 dur.@.050 lift on a 105 LCA and a 3000rpm stall converter, put the same basic cam in the same engine with really good cylinder heads and the results may amaze you

why not call and get a consensus or average of the suggested cam specs from
crane,1-866-388-5120
crower,1-619.661.6477
erson,1-800-641-7920
lunati 1-662-892-1500
isky 323.770.0930
clay smith 714-523-0530

but Id certainly suggest a flat tappet solid lifter design over a hydraulic if your trying to keep costs lower, and yes the cylinder heads are critical to making the combo work
