now one of the more frequent requests I get is for a mild every day transportation 383 combo, for the older muscle cars
now obviously I don,t know what current parts you have
give an idea as to your skills, tools or experience or your budget.
but from the info many of you did post Id suggest, building something like a 9.5:1 compression ratio 383 with a fairly mild cam like this

naturally theres a hundred decent combos that will produce decent hp, but the compression, heads and cam and intake you select will be the key to boosting performance and checking clearances and valve train geometry is mandatory, Id find a good 7 -8 quart baffled oil pan, and low restriction exhaust during the process also.
if you currently have cylinder heads or a block it helps but be aware that most OEM sbc cylinder heads are fairly restrictive and restrict horse power potential.
if you already have a block the rotating assemblies NYH1 listed are a decent choice,

lot of guys will suggest vortec heads and for what your listed as the goal thats a valid suggestion, but be aware that it requires different rockers, intake, valve covers etc.
