HEY GRUMPYVETTE?

"Just checking to see what folks are using for an oil pan for the 383'sI wanna get a 7 quart ...wanna get some opinions before I start spending moolah...

So what oil pan are the 383 guys using?
Thanks all... "

your cars suspension and frame design and ground clearance has a huge effect on limiting your options, most oil pans will clear a 3.75" stroke of the 383 sbc, with minor clearance work, and there are pans designed with extra clearance for the longer strokes.

OBVIOUSLY youll want to check & verify with the manufacturer for the correct application BEFORE ORDERING an oil pan but these SHOULD fit, youll also want to verify the correct oil pump and oil pump pick-up thats designed for the oil pan you select and always ask if it comes with or will clear a windage tray

keep in mind SBC oil pumps and BIG BLOCK pumps CAN be interchanged in SOME applications.
sbc oil pumps have the pick-up tube mounted in the lower plate and only 4 bolts in the cover and 7 tooth gears
BBC oil pumps have the pick-up mounted in the pump housing body, and 5 bolts in the cover and 12 tooth gears

WHICH you select will depend on your bearing clearances and the application, but about 90% of the time the standard Z28 sbc oil pump works great in a SBC engines

Don't forget to take in to account whether your dip stick is on the driver side or passenger side of the block, when making that final decision.
