Hi guys I have a sbc 400 in a 68 camaro and just did a rebuild on it with the help of my mechanic buddy.I have new Profiler AllAmerican 195 runner heads on it along with a compcam xe274 cam.The problem is I dont have the seat of your pants off idle torque anymore? It has 9to1 comp.4valve relief KB pistons,Scat crank,MSD streetfire hei,Speed demon 650 carb on an RPM intake. Its hooked up to a th350 with shiftkit and 2500 stall.Posi in back with 308 gears.Am thinking about changing the cam out and going to a 3:42 gear to help bring back the lost bottom end?Any suggestions would be really appreciated!

your dynamic compression with that current 274 comp cam is in the 7.3:1 range,as the intake valve closes at about 64 degrees , thats far to low of dynamic compression,to have a instantly responsive engine, with that 3.08 rear gear ratio, youll want to find a cam that moves your dynamic compression up close to 8.1:1

a crane 114142 with some 1.6:1 ratio rockers installed at split overlap will put you right where you want to be (thats installed a couple degrees retarded from the typical dot-to-dot, instal, at .050 timing its intake valve closes at 35 degrees, which is about 50 degrees of seat timing putting you close to the 8;1 dynamic compression ratio your looking for

a cloyes timing set has a R crank index slot that drops right in to correctly index the cam, if you use the R index on the crank gear to the cam (0) instructions in the box
