solid fixture here in the forum
Hey all, just found this site even though I've been a silent student of grump's for about ten years now since I first registered on fuelslut once upon a time. Paul I must say, the effort and information you put into this and the reason you do it are inspiring. This site is saturated with knowledge. Anyway a little about what I'm in to lately just got out of the army after five years and moved back to my hometown of miami, in the northernmost tip of cuba. A good friend an I have decided to join forces and restore, build and sell classic cars. Lemme figure out how to upload pics and i'll share some projects past and present.

this was my daily driver until the head gasket decided that it didnt feel like 22 psi was fair with stock computer tricks and so its currently under the knife for a slightly larger turbo, standalone fuel system, and some other much needed supporting upgrades. for the uninitiated thats an 82 datsun 280zx turbo!

72 240z 5.3 ls swap

83 280zx hardtop converted to turbo

This is the first project my buddy and i have undertaken in our new venture, when we got the car it was beat up and rusty but already hugger orange, dressed up like a z28. now as you can see cinderella is ready for the ball, 496 big block, th400, 12 bolt rear, torq thrusts, a tribute to the yenkos that terrorized the strip once upon a time.

Once we get that out of the way... this is next... RPO B2K

WOW! those look like some nice projects!
welcome to the site!

BTW if you have any buddies on the other sites why not ask them to join into the conversations over here also?

thanks all, will spread the word around. working on that callaway has got me jonesing for a tune port injection car. im trying to seal the deal on a 1991 vette because i prefer the newer body style and interior but that tpi is just calling my name.

on another note, if youve never had the displeasure of working on a real CTTC let me tell you there was no thought put into packaging. AT ALL. the amount of crap that has to be removed just to change spark plugs is ridiculous. and that kind of piss poor planning is whats lead to the demise of alot of the early callaway cars. can you imagine a gm trained grease monkey in 89 getting that rolled into his engine bay for anything besides an oil change? its a wonder any of them survived at all. I will tell you this, if a tpi callaway was the first car i ever worked on, i would have put down the wrench for life and became a dentist!

I hear what your saying, but there is a few of us that wish they could say they had worked on a Calloway! :D

well if i show you the condition its in, you would cry. i almost did, 50k miles but 25 years of outside parking have taken its toll... weve spent the last two weeks trying to get it running right and have ignored the deteriorated exterior and disintegrated interior. the engine bay finally came together to our liking and then we hurt a seal on one of the turbos so its gonna come back apart again. i'll post up some pictures of the interior and exterior later or tomorrow morning, its really a hard thing to look at.

Was there any reasoning behind why they kept it for 25 years? Did
they not know what they had and just let rot?

there were two prior owners, one kept it in a garage in the northeast for about five years, and the second didnt appreciate it for anything more than a hopped up 87 vette i guess. i will tell you that when everything worked for a few days and we went out to catch some local street races, it feels like youre riding a unicorn with over 500lb ft of torque! very cool piece of automotive history that everyone can appreciate, but man is it a PITA to work on! honestly i never thought i would see an earl callaway in the flesh, they were cool cars i idolized as a kid, but ive seen more ZR1's than ive seen callaways in person, heck this is the ONLY c4 callaway ive seen in person.

here are a couple updated pictures of the engine bay on the CTTC and a picture of what most of the GRAPHITE carpet currently looks like. last night in an effort to avoid getting back in the engine bay and pulling the turbos we installed all the rear interior components of the car that we had new i.e. carpet, plastics, speakers, weatherstrip, etc...

Thanks for the pics Phil !!!

Could I make one suggestion? They are so large in both size on the monitor and file size makes them load slowly. Re-sizing them to about 800 pixels wide and setting the compression to 40 or less would really help.

If you don't have any software (don't use Paint by Microsoft), I have a post about taking pics and there is a software section where you can download a free program call Paint Net. If you need to annotate something, Paint Net will also do text and arrows.
