Hello all....I ran across Grumpy at another site, HybridZ. I posted a reply to one of his threads and he asked me to join this site, soooooo, here I am. Just want to say that people like Grumpy are a great & generous resource to pass on knowledge & experience to others in the need. Although I am not a vette owner, but I have extensive experience (outlined below) and I guess I joined this site to maybe pass on some of that to who ever may need it, as well as hoping to learn new things from some of you.
About me: I'm 48 yrs old and am currently a project mgr at a well known defense company and my professional career has had nothing to do with cars for the past 18 yrs. Before that however, back in the '80s, I got a degree in automotive engineering while working as a mechanic in various shops in my area. I also am fortunate enough to live in an area where there are 5 short circle tracks, 1 NASCAR oval & 1 drag strip within an hour from my home, so I got into racing when still in high school and stuck with it for about 10 yrs. I got a job at a local but very reputable engine machine shop and for 8 yrs, I built OEM & race engines full time, and the shop also sponsored my racing for a while. I also worked for the inventor & owner of Total Seal piston rings for a while during the time he had a development & prototype engine shop here in NH (late '80s).
From there I got into an industrial machine shop and expanded my knowledge & career as an all around machinist and then onto becoming a prototype & developmental tool & die machinist working with extremely tight tolerances and new ideas in the manufacturing environment. I then ended up managing a tool & die shop which was a part of & supported a large electronics manufacturing company. This job lead to my current position as project mgr at the defense company I currently work at. Through the years, I have always been involved with high performance cars & bikes either professionally &/or as a hobby and it is the longest love affair I have ever had which continues today.
My current ride, which is also my daily driver when the weather is warm, is a 1990 300zx 2+2 that I finally put a SBC 383 into. It pushes an honest 600hp through the OEM Nissan 5 spd tranny & rear end and is still a work in progress, time & money permitting.
Again, I hope to be able to share my knowledge & experience with some of you as well as continue to learn new things along the way.......
