New Mobil 1 Annual Protection Oil

"One test is worth a thousand expert opinions."
How many people will think that they can buy this stuff for their old(er) vehicles and not do oil changes for a year?
I can see it now.......... someone has a small oil leak, dumps this stuff in, and plans not to open the hood for a year.
But in only 6 months, all the oil is gone and the engine seizes. Class action lawsuit against Mobil.

would have to be a rotten pan or a bad plug gasket for that to happen very unlikely but again mileage is a better gauge then time when it comes to oil breakdown. Time can be effect also exposure to moisture. One reason it is good to start and move a sitting car every once in a while recoats those parts and burns off the condensation.

yes mobile one now sells an oil they say allows one a year oil changes
it costs about $7.50 to $14 a QUART,
(TRY TO GET IT AT WALMART,
it tends to be cheaper in 5 quart containers)

so I think its more of a MARKETING PLOY than anything else.
If we look at things realistically the vast majority of the public rarely bothers with actually doing regular scheduled oil changes.
I think this will give some people an excuse to further extend the time lag in oil change frequency,
and it may help others if it does have a robust and durable additive package!
but the thing that kills lots of engines is the fact that ALL oil traps and circulates combustion gases and soot!
that contaminates and reduces the oils ability to lubricate, changing the oil flushes out the majority of the trapped contaminates.
oil filters trap and hold the larger crap, circulating in the oil suspension, but over time the filter loses that ability, so it needs to be changed out.
If your going to extend the time between oil changes then I'd still suggest swapping out oil filters at least every 10k-12K miles,
but if you really give a damn about your engines durability, Id simply change to new oil while your under the car changing out the oil filters at that time!

keep in mind oil accumulates soot and acids over time, and even the fine black soot , most filters won,t strain out causes wear, so oil needs to be changed, even if its well filtered
