I remember my dad taking me around to the car dealers during the first oil embargo looking for an economy car because shortage. There was a 70 T/A at the town's Pontiac dealer they couldn't give it away. All gas guzzlers were parked way in the rear of the lots. A month later one of my brother's friends bought it as a coming home present. He wrecked it days later and every parent knew it and never let it go.

Brian, Do I have this correct, after 1973 T/A hood scoops no longer opened? That's an awfully big useless thing there for just looks. I have a complete nos '79 shaker top and bottom. I can't see where air comes in from the top.

They were closed off with a thin sheet metal plate from 1973-76.
Held in place with 3 pop rivets.
Most had the rivets drilled out.
It was the only way to pass EPA Drive by Noise standards set for 1973 & continued with Democrats and Luberals till Reagan was elected in the 1980's

1977-81 The shaker rear opening was closed off .
Its easily cut open with a Hacksaw blade.

If You have a Complete NOS 1978-79 Pontiac 400 engine shaker its pretty rare and valuable.
Hard to put a price tag on because I have never seen similar sold NOS.
$750 -$1000 A guess.
