I have a project at hand involving a building clad in architectural metal panels, described on the original drawings (circa 1960) as "Porcelain Enamel Aluminum". The coating is chipped and flaked away in many places, and the client is requesting they be "refinished". It has been suggested that the panels be removed and re-enameled in a controlled environment. I oppose this for many reasons, but nonetheless, the question I humbly pose is:
Is anyone out there familiar with aluminum finishes? Porcelain Enamel in general? Means and methods of preparing said surfaces?
