GRUMPY>>>>I found oil in my radiator fluid...on the dip stick & coating my rocker arms etc. Have not run it very long like this...idled in my driveway for the most part. It is a freshly built sbc motor with a B&M 250 blower on it. I'm worried that I've done damage. Seems to run ok though no steam out exhaust. Is there anyway I can confirm that the engine is ok apart from just correcting the problem and driving it? Secondly, I'm trying to determine whether it is a blown head gasket or intake manifold gasket. I did use copper head gaskets which worries me and I'm inclined to think the gasket is the culprit however it is not blowing steam thru the exhaust. I pressurized the cooling system this afternoon and it is not holding pressure for very long. I'm not seeing any leaks externally except for a small one from the water pump that I corrected. I'm not able to do any tests while the car is running as I have the supercharger off the car. My question is if I do a compression test (dry) and everything checks out ok does that by elimination point to the intake manifold as the source of oil in the crankcase. I don't think it could be a cracked block or heads as I had this checked before my rebuild."

ok you need to get this corrected because it will cause damage, over time and it won,t take all that long, in most cases to do that damage.

first step pull and examine the spark plugs and label them, post CLEAR pictures (LIKE THESE POSTED ABOVE)

next do a leak down test post the results

next Id check carefully, oil in the radiator fluids rather rare, coolant in the oils far more common with a blown head gasket or leaking intake gasket, when you get what looks like oil in the coolant its usually transmission fluid leaking in the radiator if your running an automatic trans that routes trans fluid thru the lower radiator.

now if your not seeing evidence of coolant on the plugs the fact your getting coolant in the oil but not seeing it on the plugs usually indicates a bad intake gasket or cracked intake or heads, obviously this is a case of needing to logically test, and isolate to locate the problems source.
if the head gasket seal failed its likely that one or more of the spark plugs will be wet, rusted, or look steam cleaned

"Grumpy ,I looked, closer, Actually I didn't see oil in the coolant I was mistaken...it was water (I didn't see coolant and oil in the radiator) only water in the oil only. I will pull the plugs & try to post them. Since I'm only using water in the radiator should I still pull the plugs, Will some of them look steam cleaned rather than a burnt color if there was a breach of the head gasket? ...........
well I pulled the plugs , my plugs...they are very black ...I believe I'm running very rich but I don't see any evidence of a blown head gasket. Shall I assume my head gasket is good and that the b&m intake manifold gasket is the problem? One note the heads are the newer post 87 design and the intake is of the older style. I had to ream the bolt holes out a little in order to make it fit. I remember having a problem when I was seating the intake."

yes thats likely if the head gasket seal failed, you would see some plugs look much different.
if all the plugs look very similar it usually is a good indicator the head gaskets ok and your dealing with a leaking intake manifold gasket, thats allowing coolant to leak into the lifter gallery
THAT PROBLEM SHOULD be much easier to fix than a bad head gasket

Yes they all look exactly the same very sooty and black but nothing else. I have yet to fine tune this motor and that would explain the condition of the plugs but no evidence of head gasket failure. Since I had a problem fitting my intake should I use a thicker gasket/more sealant?

the first thing you need to do is figure out where and why the current gasket leaked coolant or water , theres a reason it leaked, something is binding or not fitting , or lined up correctly, or sealing, the intake mounting bolt holes clearance or gasket used on the intake might not seal until you find the cause.
you can,t just assume a thicker gasket will cure the problem

coolant mixed with oil has almost no ability to lubricate or prevent rust, a leaking head gasket,a cracked head, or leaking intake gasket, etc. will allow the two fluids to mix, if the problems not quickly corrected, the engine run with the mix being pumped to the bearings is in for major damage too occur
