we are looking to tap the front oil galleys and install pipe plugs on our 880 block. two of the holes appear to be larger than a 1/4 npt plug. They look like they will be close to 3/8 npt. anyone know what size they might be?

also, is there any reason we couldnt drill the new press in plugs before we press them in or is drillin the press in ones a no no

drilling the press in plugs before you install them is fine, you can use AN fitting plugs and tap the holes for that thread

drill at least the left oil passage plug with a .030-.035 drill to supply the cam gears with extra oil flow, on a race engine with a high voluum oil pump, and a 7-9 quart oil pan, its a good idea to drill both the center and left plugs as it speeds oil flow reaching the lifters and prevents air being compressed in the passages slowing oil reaching the lifter and cam lobes

just be certain the plugs not, installed so deep in the passage that it blocks the cross oil flow passage

Don’t forget the “forgotten” plug. If you don’t remove it before the block is cleaned, debris can hide in the main oil passages. And if you forget to reinstall it before the rear main cap is bolted on, oil will not be directed through the oil filter!

BTW THAT INFO ON THE PLUG PICTURES NOT TOTALLY TRUE! YOU STILL HAVE SOME OIL PRESSURE BUT MOST OF THE OIL BYE_PASSES THE OIL FILTER

for the BBC guys
