Oil slingers for timing chain oiling.

Many brands of engines use an oil slinger to help oil the timing chains. The disc gets sandwiched between the crank gear and the hub of the harmonic damper. The small block chevy is not one of them.

I like the idea of adding a slinger to help keep the oil away from the front seal in the timing chain cover. I read that oil slingers were used from 55-61. But I don't think that the timing covers we have today have the necessary clearance to use one. Plus they probably got rid of them when seal technology got better and road draft tubes were replaced with PCV systems, yielding lower crankcase pressures.

the double roller cloyes timing chains tend to last longer before they wear and have excess slack
and they can be used with the stock O.E.M timing chain cover

I would say its a Non issue with a SBC Mike not having a Stock Oil Slinger.
Pontiac V8 didn't use an oil slinger either on the Front of crankshaft.
The early years 1955-63 Pontiacs used a Factory Rope seal packing up front.

My 65 Olds 425 V8 uses an oil slinger up front of crankshaft.

I drove the 350 TBI Suburban yesterday to work in Joliet. Running behind so I flat Footed 66 miles at 90-95 entire trip.
Showed up 10 minutes early.
Did it in 43 minutes .
Checked while waiting for doors to open at the Auto shop.
No oil leaks.
Didn't burn any crankcase oil.

The SBC timing cover is Convex around the Crank timing gear sprocket.
Pontiac V8 is too with its Diecast cover.
Olds V8 is a Flat heavy guage steel plate.

I used the better Fel Pro Timing cover set. Included the Ready Sleeve stainless part to renew the sealing surface of the SBC factory harmonic balancer.
Cost was $16 something from Advanced Auto parts.

Road draft tubes are effective .
Used on Diesel Semi Trucks yet.
Pontiac used till 1962.
