Has anyone performed a V8 install in a 2nd generation S10 Blazer 4X4 ?
Its usually done with the 2wd S-10 Pickups & 2wd pickups made from 1986 to 1994 or so with a SBC.
I have a 1997 Blazer 4X4 4dr in decent condition with a bad 4.3L V6 engine.
Rod Bearing hammering hard.
Believe it or not the supply of good usable low mileage Vortec 4.3LV6 has dried up.
Typical used 4.3 LV6 engines you find in the junkyards have 200,000 to 300,000 miles of use. Purchase price is $700 to $900. No warranty.
To me that is a terrible buy.
Cash for clunkers, thank you obama.......... :x

I always hated those GM 4.3Lv6's anyhow.
Ticking time bombs driven fast at 70mph +.

I have a 1977 Oldsmobile 403.
I rebuilt it in 1998. Still runs strong.
Have a wild idea of transplanting it my 1997 Blazer.
Researched earlier today, and Oldsmobile V8's have been transplanted into S10 Blazers by a few adventurous Oldsmobile fanatics.
The forum links I found are very old so no pictures came up to check out & review.
A Chevrolet to BOP transmission adapter would be required. A stand alone trans controller of some sort. Or replace the 4L60E trans with an earlier 700R4.
Using the stock exhaust manifolds would make for easier engine installation & exhaust headpipe fabrication.
Plan on using the stock Rochestor Q- jet carburetor.
Feed the engine with fuel from the stock fuel pump with a return style regulator. Or an aftermarket Mallory Comp 110 gph electric fuel pump or Holley Red- Blue pump.
Accessory brackets would have to sorted out. Use Olds 403 PS & Alternator setup.
A/C compressor could be removed & left off.
Plenty of aftermarket aluminum S10 Blazer V8 radiators made to cool the Olds 403. Use an electric fan.
Olds V8 engine mounts could be sorted out & adapter blocks made & welded up.

Kicking around the idea today. Olds V8 403 in a 1997 Blazer.
Be the wife's backup car. Her Honda 1999 CRV is approaching 200,000 miles. I keep up on maintenance on it.
Would make for a pretty quick grocery getter for her. :D \
Any of You old enough to remember & have driven the 1977 to 1979 Pontiac Trans Ams installed with the Olds 403ci V8 engines know they ran very strong.
They( Olds 403ci @ 185 HP) actually outperformed the higher output rated 220Hp TA 6.6L - 400ci Pontiac V8 stock for stock.

What do you gentleman think ?
Be one of my projects to complete for 2013.
