I was getting gas yesterday when the car in the next bay got my attention, it was a mid 1980s jag which sounded much more like a rather radical high compression v8 and when I asked the driver he popped the hood and showed me a 468 big block chevy engine he had installed, it looked like a factory installed engine, everything was very neat and well laid out, he had a large holley on a air gap intake and he said the engine made 460 rear wheel hp, now the way the car easily spun the tires as it left without having the engine rpms go very high, was impressive and it accelerated very well, I don,t know the trans or rear gears but it looked like a very well thought thru car
now regrettably I failed too get any pictures but I pulled this few of a similar car so you'll get a vague idea

jagsthatrun.com has a comprehensive swap manual on the xj's

those cars have a trick IRS rear end that i see swapped into alot of vehicles, it has a salisbury 4hu diff with a relatively low (numerical) gear but trick looking inboard brakes that allow for a wide wheel and tire setup...

I will never look at any IRS Rear with praise no more Phil.
It has kept the Corvette world SLOW SINCE 1963.
WHY GRUMPY & COUNTLESS OTHERS NEVER CAN HIT 9'S & 8'S IN 1/4 MILE.
They always go Kaboom.
Damn IRS.

I like the handling idea of an independent rear but the truth is most do not have the skill to out drive the stick axle they already have so at that point it is nothing more than bragging rights to me.

well rest in peace 50 years of live axle mustang... the 2015 will be irs

It will be tossed into the Dumpster Stang IRS.
Solid axle by drag racers.

If Hotrod & Race sidejobs ever kick in again Phil I will definate keep the Megasquirt in mind 1st.
Not many can afford FAST XFI Or Electromotive around here.
A few in Chi town area but most there are like us struggling to keep at it Hotrod & Race.

I think custom drivetrain swaps a good way to earn extra $$$ & $ X K$.

That looks very interesting might have to build one mega squirt was the original way I was gonna go before I won my ecu

you can build it or buy it pre built... the company recommends you build your first one to familiarize yourself with the parts and processes. the machines are SOOOO modular that you could buy one and add onto it as new features come out pretty much indefinitely. or you could use a microsquirt setup like the one linked in the sloppy mechanics blog... built by the same people its a much smaller board, the whole getup is about the size of a pack of cigarrettes. and it comes pre assembled for LS series or flying lead for your custom application.
