PLUG UNDER REAR CAP

Paul looking for some info. about the plug under the rear main cap if left out. Because John Lingenfelter wrote that it drop oil pressure 20 pounds if left out guys think his word is gospel, I know this has been debated before with no merit.

Do you have any links on this subject.

Here is a link where this was poasted.

that plug is necessary, it routes the oil correctly thru the oil passages , I can,t tell you if leaving the plug out drops oil pressure because IVE never forgotten to install one!

this thread has useful info

When it bypaases the oil filter how would it cause it to drop pressure as there is no place to bleeed off !! If any thing it would be less restrictive and maybe have a tad more pressure.

Again where does the oil bleed off to reduce the oil pressure when all its doing is by passing the filter??

I never said it would reduce pressure, the laws of hydraulics say it won,t matter (as far as pressure)as you also indicated. but it may allow a significant percentage of unfiltered oil to bye-pass the filter

"Pascal's law states that when there is an increase in pressure at any point in a confined fluid, there is an equal increase at every other point in the container."

Thanks Paul If the engines puts out 60 pounds of oil pressure at 2000 RPM with the plug installed under the cap it should be the same with the plug left out but the only differance it not filtered any more.

Thanks Carl

UI guess I was right after all here is a link to ST where some other experts answered my question.

Thanks Paul for your time
