got a quadrajet, this info should help, , reading thru the links will provide a great deal of useful info

but before you start looking for tuning issues ,verify the fuel pressure and float levels as both can be problem areas on a q-jet , failure to do so if those are not correct, while your trying to isolate other issues will make you nuts

IM amazed at what you can learn reading thru the linked info!
I cured one problem just by buying several sets of metering rods, and changing them and watching results
 
most carb related problems are cured by going thru the basic test, isolate, and repair chart style info, if you don,t know what your working with, its very difficult to make intelligent choices,its the guys that don,t stop and check the basics like fuel pressure, setting floats and verifying the filter and fuel pressure regulators functioning correctly that go nuts trying to find the cause of problems in most cases
