quadrajet issues

when the eng is shut off the fuel in the bowl syphons out thru the idle mixture ports, if you take out one of the mixture screws the fuel pours out till the bowl is empty, even does this while running. take the carb off and fill the fuel bowl and the fuel stays. runs excellent at any thing above idle. started with hard starting. even with new gaskets ,same problem 1970 with 454.

Im assuming youve carefully verified your fuel pressure is at a maximum of 5 psi at the carbs inlet port???
if its at 5 psi or less than 5 psi..you should be ok,..that sounds like either a over heat issue which can usually be cured with a insulating carb spacer OR more likely a combo of crud in the inlet valve or floats that are defective or not set to the correct height

well did some checking and the carter high volume pump put out 5.5 psi. i put a stock pump on and its 5.5 psi. but the problem is gone. perhaps to much volume from the carter? the holley i had befor did not have any issues. now to get the idle screws to work . runs better so more work to be done. oh joy
