Some guys I talk to on a regular basis from CF and a fair weather friend got together today at Raceway Park for some run and tune time before the pros took over. Two guys had money against another for bracket style runs. The first run and this guy with his 1972 Corvette convertible was kicked off the track, wasn't even allowed to stay and watch the rest of the day. Because he wanted to drive a mild manored DD as a OE looking sleeper I warned him when he was looking at getting an early C3 to get a T Top. He insisted no bars but wants to have consistent low 11 sec. Vette.
NHRA rules, which most every public track conforms to stipulates that convertibles are limited to no quicker then 13.99 sec. in the 1/4 mile with the top speed 135 mph. Without a roll bar.
All other cars Roll Bars required when running quicker than 11.99 - 11.00
Roll Cages are required on all cars running quicker than 10.99 at least that was the rules when I raced last.

yes track rules vary a good deal, but once you exceed about 13 seconds or 110 mph , at the end of the 1/4 mile track, the tech inspector guys tend to get a whole lot more critical about what your car has in safety equipment, once you show your car can make a 11 second or faster 1/4 they tend to get very anal about having the car meet the track requirements because they don,t want to be involved in a law suit if you crash, or your engine throws clutch parts into the grandstands , or pull you out of a car that rolled after loosing an axle. etc.
