Replace fuel pump or not.

My 71 sb has been sitting for more than 3 years. The tank was replaced, lines cleaned, Q-Jet rebuilt. Tank and carb have not been re-installed yet. The pump may be a replacement - I didn't check it out yet, but it looks clean. Do these mechanical/block mounted fuel pumps develop problems sitting? What else could or should be replaced after prolonged storage ?

they don,t fail that often but ..
Id test it, to be sure, it should provide a MINIMUM of 6 psi with the engine running if you set the return regulator at 6 psi, and provide a full quart of fuel in 30 seconds of you allowing it to pump into a bucket thru a temporary fuel line extension running only on the starter spinning the engine.

naturally having a fuel pressure gauge mounted to the carb inlet feed line makes diagnosing problems faster and easier
you might be amazed at what a few tests with a fuel pressure gauge can tell you
