roller lifters

Grumpy, I am installing some gm roller hydralic lifters in my engine. I have noticed an oil hole on the side of the lifter but its only on one side. The question is does it matter which way the hole is facing? It will either go towards front or rear of engine.

oil pressure feeding the lifters feeds from the rear of the blocks oil passage flowing forward so the hole in the lifter should face the supply, or to the rear, but its not critical because the passage will feed oil into the lifter from either side.
keep in mind hydraulic laws say oil pressure levels feeding the lifters will remain fairly consistent over the whole length of the oil passage if the pressure and flow from the pumps consistent, but maintaining clean oil and changing your oil and oil filter ,frequently and installing a few magnets tends to keep crud from building in the oil gallery passages

you should also keep in mind that a roller cam valve train with the same lift and duration can provide a good deal more port flow and resulting power.

Thanks alot. I wonder how many have been just put in over the years. Good thing I asked I will make sure all holes face the rear.

they are designed so they will function facing in either direction
