if youve been into collecting semi auto rifles you should be aware by now that the ruger mini 14 has been available for decades as a usually slightly cheaper and smaller version of the U.S.A army M14/M1a1
it comes in several calibers but most are in 223 rem a few in caliber 7.62/39 (ak ammo) but theres also other calibers like 300 black-out
its developed a reputation in the original 196 series as a slightly less accurate rifle than the better ar15/
it took them over 30 plus years for ruger to make the necessary changes to a stiffer more rigid barrel to increase accuracy, with the newer 580 series carbines,
at least in theory this makes them a bit more durable and potentially more accurate, the main advantage if any is it looks a bit less like a military rifle and it has the optional stainless steel action and barrel, while the cost is no longer significantly lower than any AR15 its fairly competitive , with the cheaper AR15 versions, usually in the $700-$800 range, on the down side magazines are not ar15 compatable and tend to cost 3-4 times what surplus ar 15 mags cost
