Saying "Howdy"

Hello all.I'm LEADSLED, found out about this interesting site from some very informing posts on the Chevy Talk site, that came from Grumpy. I'm hoping to learn more right here on this site directly.Better than jumping from site to site when someone post a link to this one from the CT site( eliminate the middle man as they say)
I've been wrenchin on vehicles for better than 35yrs.,all types too, even heavy equipment. The main reason for joining in these car sites is for more education.I'm currently in the process of a on frame body/interior resto on my '51/'52 Chevy BelAir hotrod. I say '51-'52 because it has a '51 grill and id tag,( Dec. 1951),but everything else looks like a '52 It's powered by a basicly stock 350 out of a '67 SS Camaro, with an Edelbrock 1450 (600cfm) carb and a Pertronix ignition conversion(only mods). It is backed with a 4spd,and then a 3.55:1 geared 55-56 Chevy rear.
My latest concernes are the not so modern brakes, still has the original '51-'52 front suspension, single master cylinder, and drums all the way around.
The interior was redone by one of the previous owners back in the '70's.Black diamond stitched buckets, with a tilt /telescopic steering column out of God only knows what? and a home made VDO gauge cluster.
Oh yeah, I'm currently on the unemployment line,so I figured what a better time to learn some bodyworking skills. Now at 51 years old,I'm enrolled in a local tech school for my 2nd yr.,that's where my BelAir is now...waiting for my return in 2 weeks.

You sure started with a nice car, definitely makes your job easier. So where are the after pics ???

Any plans for more upgrades, how about a blown BBC ???

No after pics.yet. She's still in a couple hundred pieces, and in primer. The interior is gutted(still need to order the carpet, and I guess a new headliner too) I do have all new glass, but waiting to finish the bodywork/paint. I would also love to have all the chrome parts replated but that's another $$$$$ matter.
I believe I'll stick with the small block for now,all though there's plenty of room for a 396

You sure have a nice place to work. Sure helps to have some connections, I'm assuming that's not the garage at your house.

Maybe next spring will see some after pics, good luck!

BTW, hope you don't mind, but I resized your engine picture and also reduce the file size 10 fold.

those older cars are nice to work with because in most cases the steels a bit thicker and easier to weld, the electronics ar basic and a bit of logic was used during assembly, plus you generally have at lease a semi-decent frame

Thanks for resizing the pics Rick,I was hoping someone could. That shop is the one at the tech school I attend. It's about 6yrs.old
Oh yeah Grumpyvette.I can understand the old stuff, and it understands me.(we have a love / hate relationship)That's originally a Weatherford,Okla. car, solid as a rock. But I did have to weld in some homemade patches. It will NEVER see one of these upstate NY winters, with the salty roads an all.
You have quite the site here. Thanks alot... Lead
