SBC Head/Cam Combo in Dyno2000

I posted before that I am considering a budget heads and cam swap on my 85 c4. A stroker or LS would be cool. But excess money is not one of my attributes. :D When I say budget build, I mean budget build.

Anyhow, I have been watching out for some used 180cc heads on Ebay (barely missed a set of AFR heads, outbid with 10 seconds left) to match up with a Crane 114132 and cheapo headers. I saw some threads online about Iron Eagles. I have an iron headed car and wouldn't mind these despite the 40 pound weight difference vs aluminum.

Any of you gearheads ever pair up the afore mentioned cam with 180cc heads? I didn't find anything via the Search tab.

Here's why I am posting this here. I punched in the cam and head info in Desktop Dyno (I forgot I had this on CD until recently...hadn't used it in years). The results interesting and I am wondering if the program is too generous to a TPI car. Entering stock parameters, I got 234 horsepower. Sounds about right. Adding the heads and cam based upon the advertised numbers, the car was about 350 horsepower with small headers and mufflers. Dang near 385 if I used a 650 carb and dual plane manifold. I am including an image of each graph. Of course Desktop Dyno estimates crank horsepower...

Have you found Dyno2000 to be accurate with small block Chevy, esp with tuned port injection? If so, this would make a worthwhile winter project for me, perhaps with a 75 shot for good measure.

with the addition of that crane 114132 cam, the dart 180cc heads and headers on that TPI corvette,I think this is more realistic at about 320 FLYWHEEL HP
KEEP in mind thats still a 70 hp gain over the stock engines, but your also comparing a 230 rear wheel to a 320 flywheel power curve so the NET rear wheel hp gain will more than likely be closer to 40-50 HP YEAH YOULL NOTICE A BIG DIFFERENCE but I doubt youll get close to a real 350 rear wheel hp as the stock TPI intake is designed for low speed torque not peak horse power.

Thanks Grumpy. That's what I had assumed prior to fooling with DesktopDyno. Still better than 230...lol. I trolling craigslist and ebay each week looking for a set of used 180cc heads in any decent brand. Any lesser expensive brands you recommend?

I don't mind tackling heads...we owned Fords throughout the 90s and so having the heads and intake off happened a few times. LOL!

Strictly Attitude: Good question. Initially I was just going to do some porting on my intake, add a cam, and cheap headers and call it quits. I keep an eye out for used heads anyway, just in case. I found a set of AFR on Ebay last week for $300 something. In the last hour, it went up to $400. I bid $450 with 20 second to go, and they sold for over $500. So I was willing to pay $450 for used heads, but that was a steal for AFRs. I see Dart 180s going new for a grand. I'm comfortable with paying used prices for a set if I find any. And of course, the longer I hold off the more I can save up so I just may purchase new.

Any cheaper brands that aren't junk? I know you get what you pay for.
