seeking 12 volts from my mirror for the Radar detector

Hey Grumpy,

I posted this on another site with not a lot of traction. Maybe you've had experience with this?

I have a radar detector that fits perfectly on the windshield right in front of the rear view mirror. I would like to grab power from inside the mirror assembly to power it. Anybody ever attempt this? I've been in to my factory manual regarding the mirror and it's pretty vague. Before I tear in to it can someone tell me the best way to disassemble the mirror?

Thank you very much in advance

Oh, I have a 92 coupe

IVE never done that , and my first thought would be to use a long custom made cord powered from a cigarette lighter plug- in as a power source ,and use a couple drops of super glue on the cord surface every few inches to attach it to the edge of the glass windshield to prevent damaging the mirror and make future removal without a trace far simpler. that way you avoid potential damage to the mirror and remove the cord hanging in the windshield vision area, or if you have a lighted sun visor mirror on the pass side that might be a source you can tap into.
