selecting a street 383 cam

Stuck between two cams, so I need some help. They are both pretty similar but just wanting to know from you guys which one would be better for the combo. 383 stroker, AFR 195 Eliminator heads, 700R4 transmission 2500 stall, something like 3.73 gears with a posi, 10.0:1 cr, dual plane intake (Weiand Street Warrior), 750 Quadrajet (SMI), 1.6 roller rockers on the intake if I use the Engle cam and 1.5 roller rockers if I use the Isky cam.

Engle Cam (Solid Flat Tappet)
Advertised Duration: 274/274
Duration @ .050: 238/238
Lift: .491/.491
LSA: 108
RPM: 2000-6000

Isky Cam (Solid Flat Tappet)
Advertised Duration: 270/270
Duration @ .050: 242/242
Lift: .530/.530
LSA: 110
RPM: 2300-6500

I would use a roller cam but just dont have the money for one. If you guys could pick a cam and give the reasons why that would be great, or pick one that you might use thats not on here. Thanks.





every choice involves some compromises
given the limited info, and assuming a few things about your combo , like a full exhaust and street use, Your most effective RPM computed from your Cross Sectional Area of your port of 1.95sq inches at the narrow throat and Bore of 4.03 and Stroke of 3.75 is 5,569 rpm, and starts to get limited about 6400rpm due to piston speed and port velocity, intake design and carb limitations .the cam selected will require a 3000 rpm stall converter to give their full potential,and might be a problem with only a 2500 stall, but since your limiting use to a 2500 stall , and to work with the carb and intake design,you've suggested and to avoid detonation , match the intended power range with that compression with pump gas of about 91 octane youll want an LSA of near 112 and a duration near 239-243, and a lift near .550 or a bit more ID suggest a cam like this with 1.6:1 ratio rockers

in an ideal combo your power curve would look similar to this and youll have a converter stall speed and rear gear ratio and tire diam. that allows the engine to stay in (in this case the 4000-6500rpm power band)
