should I use the fuel pump?

hi i have 96 vette that has the 2nd dead fuel pump in 3 yrs. it is definitely a dead ful pump confirmed . Since changing last pump i have only put 50 miles in the 3 yrs . Why would the pump fail a 2nd time . What pump is available that would be more resistant to failing with this car and its lack of driving issue? Should i go aftermarket?

I'ts been my experience that the corvette in the tank fuel pumps , are not designed to pump water or rust flakes ,they tend too fail from water in the fuel tank, (ethanol containing fuels absorb water from the air) and long periods of not adding fresh fuel and not driving the fuel to keep ethanol from separating or absorbing moisture or lack of fuel being kept at a level that effectively cools the pump, during its operation, tends to hurt fuel pump durability, as both ethanol content and moisture in the fuel tank does not help pump durability.
the fuel level should ideally exceed 1/4 tank most of the time to allow fuel to keep the pump cool. the more empty space in the tank the more condensation tends to collect, over long term storage.

Would an aftermarket pump be more durable than the stock gm fuel pump then. The car will continue to sit for another year and a half as I am undergoing knee reconstruction and several phases
I already purchased the ac delco pump. Would u stick with that pump if u were me? I promise this is the last question !

if you look at places that sell BOTH good quality and bargain priced parts like ROCKAUTO or SUMMIT OR JEGS, youll see theres fuel pumps available from under $30 to over 250 PLUS aftermarket sources can go up from there, theres no way thsat a pump from a well known manufacturer like lets say BOSCH that sells for 8 times what the bargain basement pump is going to be made to the same quality or contain the same attention to detail or have similar component quality, you tend to get what you pay for
your asking questions HELPS others, reading thru these threads, as does anyone with experience, answering and discussing options, so feel free too continue, posting questions,as that is the whole purpose of my personal site (HELPING OTHERS :mrgreen: ) and this one.

Id say if you already own a AC delco pump it would be foolish to NOT use it at this point. its certainly able to supply a mildly modified engines
If I had one in stock (AC DELCO) Id use it in my vette if it matched the application i needed it for in a heart beat!
