"Grumpy I have an older nova (1969) and it runs and drives ok, but I want to sell the car or trade it in, and Im getting offers well below what I feel the cars worth so Im wondering if I upgrade the 350 in the car now to a 383 sbc will get better offers on the car?"

in almost every case any money you sink into the SBC engine upgrade will be wasted, your very unlikely to get as much more for the car as the upgrade in parts , or the time and effort you put into the upgrade costs you,or put a different way, sinking $1000-$2000 or even more into upgrades is unlikely to increase the price an equal amount.
there are cars where a different engine makes a huge difference in the potential selling price but its very unlikely in a truck or a rather common car ,with a 350 to 383 upgrade
NOW in A COBRA KIT CAR, T-BUCKET,CORVETTE or some similar cars it MIGHT be possible to re-coupe the cost with a special buyer, but even then its unlikely, UNLESS you have something rather unique

ENGINES LIKE a 426 HEMI,IN A CAR THATS DOCUMENTED TO HAVE COME FROM THE FACTORY THAT WAY, OR A 540 BIG BLOCK CHEVY, BOSS 429 IN SOME CARS CAN easily boost the selling price , ON SOME SELECT CARS BUT a SBC rarely will in ANY CONFIG
