Snap On Torque Wrenches

Turned in my clicker torque wrench to the Snap on man for recalibration and he said it may be to old. Anybody heard about that or is it a scam to make me spend money?

personally, it sounds like a scam to me,
but I have zero to base that opinion on,
other than Ive had a CRAFTSMAN, HUSKY, SNAP-ON torque wrenches, for several decades
Ive occasionally had the opportunity to test them or get one or two re-calibrated,
most of the time they were still well in spec.
(I used too have contacts at a dealership that had calibration equipment,
until just recently when the ownership changed)
as long as you never use one as a breaker bar
or leave it set for more than about 40 lbs in storage,

I have not seen them loose calibration, and I use mine far more than most people
my sears 1/2" torque wrench is at least 45 years old and its still consistent
I would avoid the $30 HF torque wrench but the ICON version that sells for $90 is decent

Your old torque wrench was built using OLD math. New ones are built using NEW math.
But the real problem is that the current employees at Snap On are the younger generations that can't do ANY math.
So new torque wrench or old, they are just going to tell you to buy a new one.
I wonder how many millennials can read one of these?

Or this?

That’s what I thought. It’s a Snap on I bought in about ‘72. I haven’t used much in the last 20 or so years so I just wanted it checked. I’ll let you know what he says when it comes back. Thanks.

Heh, I work in the Graphic Design department of a community college, and students not knowing how to use a ruler is pretty much a given.

What will really fry your brain is that we now have to teach them to use these:

Got my torque wrench back from Snap On. Calibration was $80. A little more than I have found on line but no shipping. Cal free for 5 years.
