best of luck in your new career, make as many contacts as you can, keep their phone numbers and business cards and always volunteer too help on those little projects guys that know more than you will be doing, you'll pick up a good deal of both skills and experience and more contacts that way, and while it might cause you to do a good deal more work and have less free time it will also result in you building a far more secure and marketable set of skills and business contacts.

I know I once did a basically free brake job for a guy a my work places kid and got a promotion, later, and I was told I beat out two other applicants because of my well known willingness to help others, (it turned out the big boss was that kids uncle) something I knew nothing about at the time, he thanked me in the interview years later for helping the kid with that car and only asking him, to pick up the sandwiches and cokes, for lunch in return
