I watched this video, the guys ABSOLUTELY CLUELESS,
hes quoting ballistics that are ABSURD
if you know anything about ballistics ,
your jaw will drop listening to this moron.

he claims a 7mm rem mag 170 grain bullet at 3500 fps
he claims a 300 wby mag 220 grain bullet at 3500 fps

both bullet weights will be far closer to 2900 fps in those cartridges

7mm08 a big game round it is a good deer round but no way am I going to use one of these on big game and from what I think not sure of but a 45-70 round is hard impact but short range and I suspect the 444 would be close too

I hunted ELK with both a 45/70 and a 450 marlin,
both cartridges in modern high strength actions can be loaded to push a 405 grain bullet to 1800 fps,
or a bit more, that hits significantly harder and penetrates far deeper than the typical 300 grain low pressure factory loads,
that are designed to be safe in all 45/70 actions.
both the 450 marlin and 45/70 are best used in the 0-250 yard range , as trajectory tends to limit easy hits much past that.

I thought a 45-70 run out of gas around 150 - 175 yards I didn't realize they would travel that far and be effective

I personally vastly prefer the remington 405 grain bullets, these are very similar

https://www.midwayusa.com/product/8...onded-weldcore-flat-nose-soft-point-box-of-50

but a good second choice is the hornady 350 grain,
https://www.midsouthshooterssupply....-350-grain-round-nose-with-cannelure-50-count
these can be safely pushed to 2100 fps in the BLR in 450 marlin

and that can be loaded to higher velocity to shoot flatter.

the best load Ive found in my browning BLR 450 marlin is 405 grain rem bullet over 50 grains of IMR3031 and a fed 215 primer.

all these are accurate
for the marlin 45/70 we generally use 46 grains of RL7 and the same 405 grain rem bullet and a 215 primer

for the marlin 45/70 we generally use 49 grains of RL7 and the hornady 350 grain bullet and a 215 primer

I almost got a 45-70 a year ago but I picked a Henry 45 Colt instead because I already load for my 45 Colt Redhawk and the 45-70 was a new Marlin and I've been hearing nothing but bad things about them lately

find a 450 marlin caliber browning BLR you won,t be sorry!
they are very accurate and provide you with excellent stopping power with cast or jacketed bullets in the 350-400 grain weight range,
and while the browning BLR is more expensive than the marlin or Henry,
if you put them all side by side you'll see a big difference in quality favoring the browning.
be sure you carefully clean the barrel rifling if you swap between jacketed and hard cast, projectiles,
the metallic residual left by either, on the bore is not conducive too max accuracy.
if you shoot both interchangeably, you'll want to clean carefully,
with the object of removing and cleaning the bore/rifling of either, type of jackets residue
but sticking with one or the other reduces issues.
hard cast gas check bullets will produce significantly less bore wear,
as the bullets are far softer.

Ive used both and vastly prefer the 450 marlin blr
if you buy the BLR learn to properly handload,
youll cut the cost of ammo by 70% or even more if cast bullets are selected
and I prefer, 50 grains of IMR3031 under a 400 grain jacketed bullet is devastating on anything,
many of my friends prefer the 350 grain hornady bullet, for its slightly flatter trajectory and lower recoil.
most guys don,t have the field experience,
because actual hunts cost a great deal more than most of us can afford,
many the older geezers had, less regulations and lower costs to deal with,
so many got far more experience HUNTING than many of the newer guys will ever have.
and base much of their equipment selections on recommendations in magazine and videos.
magazines all seem to stress the need to make 500 yard shots, the truth is based on my experience that shots over 250 yards are VERY RARE!
Id bet the average over 50 years of hunting is well UNDER 130 yards

I would feel very well equipped holding a browning BLR in caliber 450 marlin, with a high quality scope
Browning_BLR.jpg

loaded with my choice of 405 grain bullet over 50 grains of IMR 3031 even facing a mad brown bear, and its certainly well proven elk medicine,
those 405 grain bullets provide a decent shot with all the lethal power required, to take the fight out of anything that walks in north America

if you want a good 450 marlin load try 50 grains of IMR 3031 under a 405 remington bullet and a 215 fed primer,
its accurate and will kill anything in north America if you place your shots well,
place your shots well and its very lethal
