1991 nissan stanza automatic KA24 not shifting.
while in drive the car stays in 3rd at all times, no shifting or hesitation just slow acceleration and no shift. it will however shift (when the shifter is put there) into reverse. the car just randomly did this one day, no loud bang or damage to it which leads me to think its an electrical issue. perhaps some sort of transmission limp mode?

have you checked the transmission fluid level?
have you gotten under the car on a lift or jack stands and verified all the electrical connections, vacuum hoses, and shifter linkage is correctly connected?
do you own a shop manual for that car?
have you pulled trouble codes?
have you checked the sensors on the engine like TPS and and throttle cable connections

I used to work on Nissans daily.
I don't recall all ins & outs of your early 1991 Stanza.
A quick search, I believe its an electronic shift transmission.
Possible broken 1-2 shift solenoud wires or bad shift solenoid.
Sometimes a Reverse input drum Sun gear Shell would fail inside of those Nissan transaxles.
Like a GM 700R4 but on a smaller scale.

fluid is correct level and clean, i gave it a good once over and everything looked in tact. no severe leaks or hanging wires, the linkage is attached properly, no shop/factory service manual and cant seem to find one online, im not sure it has a plug, took it to several shops and they couldnt find it either and dont want to bother with it, throttle and tps are also in tact and functioning as far as a visual inspection.

If you can Find ALLDATA to use, read up on your 1991 Nissan Stanza auto transmission.

i have alldata for a few other cars but i didnt really want to spend the money on this car, i only paid 250 for the car itself and its run great until recently. also im a cheap bastard so if i can just kick it a few times or replace something ill be happy. if the trans is bad im just going to convert it to standard. its at a proper garage now with a transmission expert so im expecting the good tidings tomorrow.

I would part the car out myself.
Its not a Musclecar or Street Racing Terror classic.
Nothing a Fast & Furios Honda kid wants either.

Engine worth reselling. $200-250.
