Tuning out VATS

I am working on an 86 Corvette, and the diagnosis is a bad VATS decoder module. Knowing the part is discontinued I am searching for an alternative to replacing the module.

One option is having VATS completely tuned out of the car (fuel delivery and starter interrupt.) Has anyone ever had this done? What was the outcome?
